Looking past the literal idea of color unlocks an even deeper understanding of Behind Color. Apparent in the diversity of genre between each artist is a collection of unique histories, culturally and personally. Behind Color intends to showcase these honest stories, and evaluate how an individual’s identity can affect their perception of their process and work. Hailing from diverse cultures, these nine artists each have their own selfhood that personifies itself through the literal application of color throughout the exhibition.

“People of Color are not a monolith...
...Color, in the context of race, is a Euro/American construct that perpetuates separatism, stereotypes, communication blocks, and misinformed ideology, leading to societal disharmony. What if we prioritized seeing individuals' souls over color, utilizing cultural specificities to unite us? 'Behind Color' becomes a metaphor for an artist working with diverse hues, while simultaneously representing the colorful tapestry that is humanity.”
